| Title: | Intelligent Design and Public Education |
| Abstract: | Should Intelligent Design be taught in public school science classes along with Darwinian evolution? This issue was addressed in 2005 by a federal district court in Pennsylvania (Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District) but continues to percolate at the level of local school boards, state boards of education, and state legislatures. This paper will examine the competing claims of proponents and opponents of ID and will provide some historical perspective by comparing the contemporary debate over ID with earlier debates about the teaching of evolution and Creation science. |
